All kids in Grades 2-8 gain a safe place to practice writing down their ideas, praise for their efforts, more people to read their writing, and purposeful projects that help improve reading, writing, logic, leadership, and language skills.  The WWClub isn't a cookie-cutter, boxed-up, zeroxed, locked-in, impersonal, grade-focused program.  We are a fun club.  We focus on kids.  We keep families our number one priority.  Let's talk about how the Weekly Writer Club can help you!

Kids Learn "Moodle" in the WWClub:
    It's Web 2.0 Technology!

All kids learn Web 2.0 technology in Moodle.

All Weekly Writer Club Members get trained in Moodle, a secure password-protected Web 2.0 technology with blogs, discussion forums, wikis, and messages. We love Moodle for its safety and simplicity. And we love the way that it allows kids to shine as active rather than passive learners. It isn't flashy and we like that! We want the focus to always remain on the kids: their imaginations, their ideas, their comments, their creativity!  Plus, you won't find any ads or distracting links leading off-site. We rely solely on one small membership fee per family and we hope you'll help us by forwarding our www.weeklywriter.org website to everyone on the planet. We know we are missing out on ad income through click ads, data-tracking, but we want to grow through grassroots advertising and word of mouth only.  This is our commitment to a safe family-friendly focus.

  • Frequently Asked Questions  wink

  • 1. What is the Weekly Writer Club? The Weekly Writer Club is an online Language Arts program that rewards students for exploring ideas through letter-writing and Web 2.0 technology.

“Earn promotions and rewards for writing letters to people you know and people you wish you knew! Meet new friends all over the nation who are discovering that writing letters is easy and fun to talk about in online forums, chats, and surveys. Practice being a national correspondent. Build a portfolio of letters from experts, celebrities, friends, and family. And, along the way, improve your skills in reading, writing, grammar, logic, and leadership!"

    2. Who runs the WWClub? This is a club facilitated by Judy Steidl, supported by parents, but led by active student participation of all ages and abilities

    3. Why focus on learning Language Arts through Letter Writing? Letters are a perfect opportunity to learn how to be a better communicator. Letters can be long or short, handwritten or typed, personal or professional. And each letter is a small writing composition that can entertain, inform, teach, question, persuade, explain, thank, or promote. Our goal is to learn to write well so that we receive a good response, rather than a good grade. I'ts great to hear the words: You've got mail!

    4. Is it secure? You bet. Here is why. Supervising parents can see exactly what is written on any page and in any online feature. Parents are involved and responsible behind the scenes to encourage and guide. Second, the whole site is membership and password-protected. Each user has a customized profile so you can safely get to know other Club families across the nation. Third, there are NO blinking, distracting, leading advertisements on our website.  When you send out letters, you can even keep your home address private by using the Club's post office box anytime you wish! Letters that arrive in the Club office are opened, digitized, and sent directly to your Family Forum online.

    5. Is this an English class? Not a Class, but a Club!  It is all about practicing Language Arts to meet learning objectives per grade level in uniquely fun ways. We share in the learning process by helping each other as a team. Use your own curriculum or ask us to make a new customized project just for you.

    6.  What if I have a reluctant writer?  The Weekly Writer Club is for reluctant writers as well as kids who love to write.  Simply help build the habit of logging in and blogging and you'll be surprised to see student writing increase.  We read everything that is written and we send encouraging messages through the Club Messages.

    7. How does the Club work?  We'll get you set up within 24 hours.  You'll download the free ebook "Using Your Moodle" and start creating your own Profile.  Get a photo ready to upload for your Profile Picture!  You can blog immediately!  You will have your own Family Forum immediately!  We'll have a welcome message in your child's Message box right away!  Then you start any of the projects:  Quickstart , Mailbox Tutor, LEGO Club, Internet Safety, Program. While you are going through those first letter projects, we'll be developing some special ideas-- just for you-- based on your age and interests. We'll be here to help guide you towards your promotion to Club Ambassador!

Together, we develop a national correspondence network of experts who can answer the questions you pose in your letters. Together, we find the ideas, people, and addresses. Along the way, you can meet new Club friends through messages, blogs, contests, challenges, chats, surveys, and more. You'll write more letters and soon you'll be promoted to the highest rank in the Club where you'll be eligible for more privileges. Plus, we keep track! All your experiences and letters go into your Keepsake Portfolio as a record of this year in WWClub.

    8.  How do I integrate the Weekly Writer Club into an already busy schedule?  The WWClub is a perfect match to anyone's schedule.  It is always available as a collection of 24/7 opportunities.  You choose what, when, how, and how often you dive into the activities.  Whenever you do, we are here for you.  For instance, save time by integrating assignments in other subject areas such as history, science, and physical education by assigning Blog topics. It's flexible!  We can offer innovative ideas on how to blend programs without adding more pressure to your schedule.

    9.  When should I join?  Enrollment is always open throughout the school year.  The sooner you join, the sooner we can customize activities for you and help match you with students already in the WWClub.

    10. How do I join? It's simple!  Apply and pay online through PayPal or just contact us and we'll talk about how to join through your homeschool group or mail in your membership fee to:  Membership/ The Weekly Writer Club/ P.O. 3333/ Escondido, CA /92025 --- But talk to us!  We enjoy hearing from you first!

    11.  What is the State Leadership Program?  State Leaders in the WWClub are visionary parents who love kids and desire to see them enjoy success in both Leadership and Language Arts.   The Executive Director works closely with State Leaders to assist in creating an ideal Club for all children.  State Leaders are encouraged to give feedback, suggestions, ideas, and tips. State Leaders are the first to receive WWClub news and information.  They also represent the WWClub in their state or province. The highly discounted price is our way of saying "Thank you" for being the heart behind our unique program.  big grin
